At today’s Colorado Bar Association’s 25th Annual Institute on Advising Nonprofit Organizations, nonprofit attorney Karen Leaffer Schauble presented  on “Nonprofits and Social Enterprise: Finding the Right Fit for Your Organization.” This session provided an overview of the structural options available to nonprofit entities considering a social enterprise, including use of taxable or hybrid entities and a few other options such as tandem (brother/sister) structures, cooperatives, taxable nonprofit corporations and social purpose corporations. It also identified key issues that nonprofits and their counsel should consider when determining structure.
